Health Level 7 (HL7) Protocols

At Context4 Healthcare, we focus on two areas of Health Level 7 (HL7) messaging protocol to help integrate our claims editing, medical claims audit, and medical claims scrubbing solutions within the healthcare arena. These two areas of messaging include: (1) the Detail Financial Transaction (DFT) and (2) the Admission, Discharge Transfer (ADT), which are explained in more detail below.

DFT – Detail Financial Transaction

The DFT message describes a financial transaction that is sent to a billing system and is used for patient accounting purposes. This message might include things like ancillary charges or patient deposits, and is sent between the DSS/order Filler and the Charge Processor. The DSS/Order Filler would then verify that the procedure had been completed.

ADT – Admission, Discharge and Transfer

ADT messages carry patient demographic information for HL7 communications but also provide important information about trigger events (such as patient admit, discharge, transfer, registration, etc.). ADT messages are extremely common in HL7 processing and are among the most widely used of all message types.

Using a LOINC code set, we complete the needs to satisfy this requirement of HL7 compliancy. Context offers the caliber of technology expertise required to achieve successful HL7 integration. By leveraging experience along with proven technology solutions, we are able to lessen the impact of implementing complex interfaces and can successfully deliver on client expectations. A number of our client base are already using HL7 transactions, finding it a key piece to their overall IT vision.
